Fellow speech-language pathologists, have you ever had to sit across from a client as they tell you about the recent loss of a close family member? Or maybe you're the first person a student just told about something really traumatic that happened to them last year. Do you ever sit there during these moments and just think to yourself: I wish we had more counseling training!!!! Like, what is our scope? What’s right thing to say? And, oh geez, is there a wrong thing to say? And beyond this difficult situations in treatment sessions, how are are you doing with regards to burnout? Do you feel like you spend a lot of time looking up a TON of burnout strategies, but you're just not making a dent on your burnout? Have you been spending a ton of time looking up a TON of burnout strategies, but you still feel like you haven’t made a dent on YOUR burnout? Turns out, trauma-informed care has something to say about professional burnout too. So please join me, Kim Neely, as we figure out what it really means to be a trauma-informed SLP.
